8/31/2024AYANEO Expands into U.S. Market, Increasing Competition in Handheld PC Gaming Market
AYANEO, a prominent Chinese brand in the handheld gaming market, has officially entered the U.S. market. The company has announced that two of their handheld products, the AYANEO KUN and AYANEO Next Lite, are now available for purchase through BestBuy.
AYANEO’s Strategic Move
BestBuy has become a preferred retailer for many companies in the handheld gaming market, offering products like the ASUS Ally, MSI Claw, and Lenovo Legion Go. With AYANEO’s entry, customers now have more options to choose from. Previously, AYANEO’s products were only available through crowdfunding campaigns, direct sales from the company, or third-party retailers not specifically located in the U.S.
Products Now Available
AYANEO has listed two of their handheld systems on BestBuy:
- AYANEO Next Lite: 7″ display, Ryzen 7 4800U, 16GB RAM, 512GB storage, priced at $399.
- AYANEO KUN: 8.4″ display, Ryzen 7 7840U, 16GB RAM, 512GB storage, priced at $999.
Product Highlights
The AYANEO KUN, the company’s flagship model, features a Ryzen 7 7840U processor, though it has been updated to the 8840U in newer versions. Despite its high price, the KUN faces stiff competition from the ROG Ally X, which offers more memory, storage, and a better battery at a similar price point. The KUN’s 75Wh battery is notable, but ASUS’s 80Wh battery in the ROG Ally X makes it less impressive. However, the KUN does offer a larger 8.4-inch screen and supports a 54W TDP mode, though the benefits of using Phoenix at such a high power target are minimal.
The AYANEO Next Lite is a more affordable option at $399, featuring a Ryzen 7 4800U processor with RX Vega 8 graphics. However, it is less attractive compared to the Steam Deck, which uses RDNA2 graphics.
Conclusion
AYANEO’s entry into the U.S. market is a significant development, providing more choices for consumers. However, the pricing of their products may need to be reconsidered to compete effectively with other established brands in the market.
