Intel Arrow Lake CPUs: Higher Base Clocks and Exciting Updates
6/24/2024Intel Arrow Lake CPUs: Higher Base Clocks and Exciting Updates
Intel’s Arrow Lake CPUs have been making waves lately, with new samples spotted in various flavors. These chips promise higher base clocks and improved performance compared to their predecessors. Let’s dive into the details!
Arrow Lake-S and Arrow Lake-HX: 24-Core Powerhouses
Three new chips have emerged from Intel’s test platforms, and they’re causing quite a stir. The lineup includes:
-
Arrow Lake-S 24-core: This chip boasts a base clock of 3.6 GHz, a significant increase (+600 MHz) over the previous entry and (+400 MHz) over the Core i9-14900K flagship.
-
Arrow Lake-HX 24-core: Similar to the desktop SKU, this chip hits a base clock of 3.0 GHz, up by a whopping +800 MHz compared to the Core i9-14900HX.
-
Arrow Lake-H 16-core: With a 6+8+2 configuration (Lion Cove P-Core + Skymont E-Core + Crestmont LP-E Core), this chip reaches a base clock speed of up to 3.5 GHz—a remarkable +1200 MHz increase over the Core Ultra 9 185H.
Impressive Speeds and Efficiency
If these base clock speeds hold true, Intel has fine-tuned the Arrow Lake CPUs to outperform existing parts. The upcoming lineup is expected to be more power-efficient than the 14th Gen Raptor Lake and 1st Gen Core Ultra chips.
Additionally, Intel seems to have pushed the envelope further, achieving desktop clock speeds of 5.7 GHz (up from the early ES samples’ 5.5 GHz). While slightly lower than the Core i9-13900K, the IPC improvements should compensate for the clock speed difference.
A New Node and Stability
The Arrow Lake CPUs mark a new generation, starting with boost clocks of up to 5.2 GHz (Core i9-12900K). Previous chips faced challenges due to high power consumption, leading Intel to revise power limits for stability across games and applications.
Launch Timeline
Intel’s Arrow Lake-S CPUs are expected to debut in October, followed by mobility parts in late 2024 or early 2025 (around CES). Accompanying them will be the Z890 motherboards, featuring the brand-new LGA 1851 socket.
Stay tuned for more updates as Intel continues to push the boundaries with its Arrow Lake CPUs!
