The Apple Vision Pro, Apple’s augmented reality (AR) headset, has faced challenges due to its high price tag. With a starting price of $3,499, it hasn’t been an easy sell for consumers. However, rumors suggest that Apple might address this issue with the upcoming Apple Vision Pro 2.
The Rumored Price
According to a recent rumor from Twitter user @Revegnus1, the Apple Vision Pro 2 is expected to have a more reasonable starting price of $1,500 to $2,500. While this is still a significant investment, it’s a substantial reduction compared to the original model.
New Suppliers Joining the Mix
To achieve this lower price point, Apple is reportedly adding two new suppliers to its supply chain: Samsung and SeeYa. These companies are currently being evaluated for their contributions to the Apple Vision Pro 2.
-
Samsung: The Korean tech giant is expected to supply LLW DRAM for the headset. This custom-designed memory will handle the intensive imaging data from the Apple Vision Pro 2’s 12-camera array.
-
SeeYa: The Chinese display maker is also in the running. If approved, SeeYa’s microLED panels could significantly reduce display costs. In fact, previous reports suggested that suppliers like SeeYa and BOE could cut display costs by up to 50 percent.
Challenges Ahead
While these developments are promising, there are still challenges to overcome. Apple aims to make the Vision Pro 2 displays brighter and more power-efficient, but achieving these improvements may take time. Additionally, the company must ensure that the quality of components from new suppliers matches that of existing ones.
What Lies Ahead
The Apple Vision Pro 2 is rumored to launch in 2026. Before that, we might see a more affordable model in 2025, albeit with watered-down features. As Apple continues to innovate in the AR space, the Vision Pro 2 could become a more accessible and mainstream product.
