PC Gaming Weekly - Gaming Laptops

Laptops are tools. That’s how I’ve long viewed them. When I think about these portable PCs, I reminisce about the times I’ve used them to cover live events (either in my past life as a sportswriter or at big shindigs such as the Electronic Entertainment Expo). I’ve never looked at them as a gaming device. That’s what my desktop PC is for.


But maybe that’s because nobody’s made the gaming laptop for me yet.


Nvidia boss Jensen Huang told GamesBeat last week that he thinks 2019 is going to be a good year for gaming laptops thanks to the midrange Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 graphics cards. I hope he’s right, as anything that gets more people into playing PC games is good in my book.


I’d like to see a good PC laptop with the form factor and design of a good portable gaming system, like Nintendo’s Switch. This would be a device not for playing the biggest, most bombastic triple-A blockbusters but for indie and retro games. I’ve long wanted a system like this, but I’ve never seen one that looks, well, like it works. The NES and SNES classic consoles sold millions for Nintendo – and I bet a strong market exists for a portable retro PC.


It’s 2019. It’s time someone made a cool retro-gaming PC so we can play like it’s 1999!
